Island Prestige

Not every holding in the archipelago carries the same weight. Island prestige measures how far a settlement has been developed from first foothold to near-perfected domain, and the standing rises or falls with the island's present condition.

What Prestige Measures

Prestige reflects the present development of one island, not the fame of a whole realm. Every building level already raised on that island counts toward the standing, and every level of research completed there counts as well.

A Governor reaches full standing only when the island has nothing left unfinished: every building at its highest level and every available research completed. Half-built ambitions do not earn full recognition.

Master Quill
Master Quill notes
Prestige is a measure of condition, Governor, not a permanent inscription. It tells what the island is now, not what it once was.

How Standing Changes

Standing rises when builders complete new levels and when scholars finish new studies. Early gains come quickly while the island is still taking shape. Later gains slow, and the last portion is the hardest of all, for only the most demanding improvements remain.

Prestige can fall. Siege damage that tears down buildings lowers the island's standing, and a razed holding loses nearly all of what had been built there. A Governor who wishes to preserve rank must preserve the island itself.

A living measure
Damage from war can reduce prestige. A high standing offers recognition, but it does not shield a settlement from catapults, neglect, or ruin.

Milestones of Standing

The council records six broad classes of island prestige. Each marks a different stage in the life of a holding.

StandingPrestigeMeaning
Outpost0-19%The first works have taken hold, but the island is still proving it can endure.
Settlement20-39%Trade, labor, and stores have begun to root the holding in place.
Colony40-59%The island no longer merely survives. It grows with confidence.
Stronghold60-79%A mature holding with enough strength and production to matter in local waters.
Dominion80-94%The island commands its surroundings and bears the marks of sustained rule.
Legendary Island95-100%Only the harshest final gains remain, or none at all.

Using The Ledger

Prestige is best read as a planning tool. If an island has stalled, the next gains usually lie in neglected structures or unstarted research. If a holding has been battered, the standing shows how much substance has truly been lost.

Governors who compare islands by prestige can quickly tell which colonies are still finding their feet and which have become dependable anchors for fleets, stores, and scholars.
